Senior Embedded Electronics Engineer | Senior Hardware Engineer | IoT and Maritime Technology
Location: REMOTE – UK Based
HQ in the Northeast so flexibility to visit there once a month is key.
There is a flexible office in Central London, and remote working options

The Role: As a Senior Hardware Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in the development of our IoT data capture devices. You will work closely with our technical leadership and engineering teams to design, develop, test, and deploy innovative hardware solutions. Your work will enable real-time data capture from marine vessels, transforming the way the maritime industry uses data. As a small but growing business you need to be able to have a holistic approach, broad remit and self-motivated to deliver results.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with marine and software engineers to understand hardware requirements and constraints.
  • Design, develop, test, and deploy new hardware solutions for marine vessels.
  • Integrate and test embedded software for hardware devices.
  • Analyze and maintain existing hardware, suggesting and implementing improvements.
  • Mentor and share your knowledge with the wider team.
  • Tackle challenging hardware problems and innovate every day.

Requirements:

  • Strong knowledge of communication architectures such as Modbus (RTU, ASCII, TCP/IP) and CANbus.
  • Proven experience in developing industrial IoT devices for data capture in commercial environments.
  • Technical understanding of low-level programming languages like C, C++, and Rust, including bootloader design and real-time operating systems.
  • Knowledge of hardware design processes, including component selection, schematic design, PCB layout, and regulatory compliance.
  • Familiarity with software development lifecycle and ability to write efficient, clean code.
  • Experience with integrated design environments and platform-agnostic solutions.
  • Proficiency with Git and GitHub in large team settings.
  • Startup mindset with the ability to thrive in ambiguous and fast-paced environments.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and communication abilities.

Preferred experiences.

  • Experience in startups or scale-ups.
  • Understanding of basic mechanical concepts.
  • Knowledge of the maritime industry or direct experience working at sea.
  • Degree in electronics or electrical engineering.
